General Description:
Exciting careers in begin right here. Office Technology students have the opportunity to choose an area of specialization based on their individual interests and abilities.

Participation Options:
Health Occupations Specialist:  The emphasis is on medical terminology, record systems, and basic medical office procedures. Students learn what it takes to work with health care professionals in the office, clinic or a floor setting. Topics include, but are not limited to: Medical Terminology, Medical Typing, Medical Transcription, Medical Office Procedures, and Medical Coding.

  • Many students elect to participate in testing which qualifies them for nationally recognized certification. Greater career prospects are available for individuals with professional credentials.

Microcomputer Specialist:  Strong emphasis is placed on math and accounting with work in automated accounting, electronic equipment, and computers. Specialists may qualify for jobs as accounting clerks or computer operators. The general business background offered in this area is the foundation for advancement. Topics include: Word Processing, Accounting, Data Applications, Spreadsheet Software, and Purchasing/Receiving.

Word Processing Specialist:  Business concepts and equipment associated with word processing and information systems are the primary focus in this area. Keyboard users should be able to key in 40 wpm by the end of their first term to pursue this specialization. Topics include, but are not limited to: Document Formats, Desktop Publishing, Medical and Legal Transcription.
