Boiler Operation to be taught by Andy Brinkman
Upper Valley Career Center Adult Division is offering both Low Pressure Boiler and High Pressure Boiler operation at the Applied Technology Center. A Boiler Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the heating, cooling and power of buildings and industrial plants using automated or computerized systems that control the boiler and other equipment.
Instructing the boiler operation training is Andy Brinkman, Troy. Brinkman has first-hand experience with the equipment as Maintenance Manager at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney. Students in the Upper Valley course will have the unique experience of touring Wilson Memorial Hospital’s boilers as part of the curriculum. “Combining this real-world exposure with classroom work gives our students a meaningful learning experience,” said Annette Paulus, program coordinator.
Paulus went on to say that participation in the program allows students to reduce by one half the number required hours practical experience needed to qualify for the High Pressure Boiler Licensing Exam. The Low Pressure Boiler class will operate Mondays and Wednesdays, 6pm to 9:30pm, October 24 through December 14. The 50-hour course costs $765.
The High Pressure Boiler class runs concurrently with the Low Pressure Boiler classes with an additional 25 to total the 75 hours required for licensure. Training operates October 24 through January 18, 2011 and costs $1140. Tuition does not include books or the cost of license exam.
Registration must be made by October 10, 2011 as class size is limited and will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information or to register please call Annette Paulus at the Upper Valley Career Center Adult Division 1-800-589-6963.
