Why We Are Here

State Board Association
includes eight local
businesses in their
2011 Honor Roll for
their on-going support
of Upper Valley

At its May 23 monthly meeting, the Upper Valley JVS Board of Education recognized eight local businesses for their strong support of the district’s programs and students.

The companies were honored as part of the Ohio School Boards Association’s (OSBA) 2011 Business Honor Roll program.  The program gives school districts an opportunity to say “thanks” to local businesses and to recognize each for the valuable contributions they have made.

To acknowledge the honor, certificates will be presented to the following companies:
Area Energy and Electric, Inc., Sidney
      Buschur Electric, Minster
      Dickman Supply, Inc., Sidney
      Emerson Climate Technologies, Sidney
Pioneer Rural Electric Co-Op, Inc., Piqua
      Scott’s Electric, Versailles
      Sollmann Electric Company, Sidney
      Wells Brothers, Inc., Anna

Each of these businesses has been a strong supporter of the Upper Valley JVS.  They have helped the school in many ways, including:
* supporting programs with in-kind or financial support,
* serving on program advisory committees,
* volunteering in schools and offering employees time off to volunteer,
* hosting company tours or sponsoring study trips,
* supporting career technical student organization activities
* offering sites for student internships/job shadowing,
* serving as mentors to students for capstone projects,
* delivering presentations to individual classes or groups, and
* donating to scholarship programs.

Superintendent Luce shared that the district values the support provided by many of the area business and industrial representatives and appreciates the opportunity to recognize these eight companies this year.

Local businesses play an important part in supporting their communities’ public schools.  This support is especially crucial as Ohio school districts face budget cuts, increased demands for accountability and a struggling economy.
